I think we had the biggest turnout at the party than ever before. The ride was somewhat cold, when we left the shop at 2:30 it was 38 degrees. 22 riders showed up to ride (more than I expected), and we picked up 2 more on the road. From the Shop we went out Lewisville-Clemmons, Shallowford, Wyo Rd, Speerbridge, Old 421, Conrad and back. With the cloud cover it was starting to get dark the last few miles but every one made it back safely. Thanks to all who braved the cold and made the ride a success. I will be starting a group ride from the shop next year, 2 times a month on Saturdays. Details will be forthcoming. He has been doing well since his last mountain bike wreck, but I'm concerned one of these times he will break a hip. At his age, that is a major injury, he may never recover from. We are close, but I can't help Georgia (his wife) take care of him and clean him. He already has to wear "Depends" (especially on long road rides) but if he is unable to get around it will be a mess. We may not have an an option but to put him into Assisted Living. Maybe he will stay off the mountain bike and it will not have to come to this. And you also know that I am a firm believer that “the only bad ride is the one you don’t go on”. Well after about years of heavy wear my old cycling shoes had seen better days. The lining was coming out and there was a “special” type of aura they gave off. So off I went to stores to check off different brands and styles.
My feet are flat, so I need a well constructed shoe that fits great. After numerous attempts at finding that perfect shoe I tried on a pair of Shimano R300 shoes at Cycletherapy. Wow!!! What a difference. I had been a Sidi man for about 10 years. Previously, rides of 3 hours or more my feet hurt. I thought this that I had old man feet and that’s just the way life is.
The Shimano R300 opened up a new portal of comfort and performance. It took Mike about 20 minutes to make the custom insole that goes with the shoe. The shoe along with the insole fit to my foot perfectly.
Some of you may be asking, what’s the big deal about shoes? So being a certified bike fitter I will tell you. The bridge of your foot is what hits the pedal spindle. This drives force to make the bike go. If your feet are not aligned with the pedal you are not efficient. If your shoes don’t fit right then you also become misaligned and inefficient as well. In addition as in my case you get the special bonus of your feet aching. After one month what a difference. No more ache. The wow factor is still there and going strong.
If you are even considering the thought of new shoes or if you are just curious as to what wow can feel like stop by Cycletherapy and try a pair on. You too can say WOW!!

John Anderson

Cross bike for sale

I went to the cross race in Dobson today. The weather was great although a little chilly for me. Jerry Motter, Sean Bir, Chancey Sumner and I raced in the Cat 4 mens division, Chancey led the way with a 21st place finish, I believe Jerry was 37th and Sean somewhere in the lower forties with me a few places behind in 48th. Thankfully there were 3 guys slower than me( they probably had food poisoning). I had a great time and can hopefully round into shape for the winter season of cross. Sirena Lunsford also raced in the Womens 4 and I think finished in 13th. I didn't get to stick around for the Cat 3 race to cheer on Fred Mitchell our lone racer in that division. Thanks to all the Cycletherapy racers who made it out today and congrats on the great finishes.

Shovels

Sunday I helped out on trail day at Hobby Park. All I can say is payback is a b#tch.

Welcome to our first blog. When the weather is this bad expect all the rides to be cancelled. The Paceline Pilot Mtn ride has been moved to Nov. 1st as has the Tricows Pancake Ride.

The Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships are in Banner Elk this weekend. Expect a weekend of mud and mayhem. The teams from Warren Wilson(Asheville), ASU and Lees Mcrae typically do really well so keep your fingers crossed.

Have a great weekend!
